Atlantic City's historic Boardwalk Hall, originally built in 1929, was renovated and updated to house 12,000 people and now is the city's largest venue for concerts and big entertainment acts.
Most famous in its early years for hosting the Miss America Pageant starting in 1940 – which it still does – the Boardwalk Hall was once the largest open-air space in the world, at 456 feet long, 310 feet wide and 137 feet high. In its early years, it also featured the world's largest pipe organ installed to accompany silent movies, listed in the Guinness Book of World Records, which is no longer functional but currently part of a restoration program. Boardwalk Hall is listed as a National Historic Landmark.
Boardwalk Hall is now home to the Boardwalk Bullies, the city's minor-league ice-hockey team. It's also the city's largest venue for concerts and other events and it houses the world's largest pipe organ.
