Look no further than San Diego County for some of the world's finest surfing beaches, some of which are world-renowned including the big waves at historic Windansea, the river mouth break at Trestles, Black Beach's dependable swells, and the well-defined break at Swami’s. Surfing is also popular near the Ocean Beach Pier.

Best San Diego Surf Spots:

  • 1. Black's Beach:
  • Well-loved by locals as an excellent surf spot, waves range from three to eight feet on the north side, which has a designated surfing area while the southern side hosts swimming, body boarding, etc. Watch for the red/yellow flag on the north side marking the boundary between the two uses.
  • 2. North Pacific Beach:
  • At the north end of the beach is Tourmaline Surfing Park which includes a public parking lot and limited facilities. This area is heavily used by surfers year round.
  • 3. Windansea Beach:
  • With its beautiful sandy beach and sandstone cliffs, Windansea is a long-time home to serious surfers due to its powerful surf break. Although it is close to La Jolla's luxury homes, oceanfront hotels and commercial shopping, its secluded atmosphere provides a quiet and romantic ambiance.
