Along the San Diego River is Old Town, the birthplace of San Diego, and adjacent Mission Valley, a major commercial center and the location of Qualcomm Stadium, home of the San Diego Chargers, and the Mission San Diego de Alcala, the oldest of the California missions. In addition, San Diego State University is situated here.
The area includes a wide array of residential neighborhoods, shopping centers, and hotels. Cruise down San Diego Avenue for an assortment of restaurants, bars, and galleries, and don't miss the Bazaar Del Mundo, with its excellent shops and authentic Mexican restaurants.
There's free entertainment, usually mariachis and folk dancers at the Bazaar del Mundo every Saturday and Sunday.
